PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit/receive a signal suited to an external unit that is connected to a connection cable, by allowing an information-processing unit for video games or the like to automatically recognize the type of connection cable, when connecting the information-processing unit and a display device by the cable. SOLUTION: An information-processing unit is provided, which is connected to an external unit through a connection cable, comprising a connector that accommodates the connection cable therein and comprises multiple contact pins, and recognizes the type of connection cable accommodated in the connector, by detecting the status of a specific contact pin of the multiple contact pins in the connector. The information processing apparatus is configured to control a video signal output means, in response to the recognized type of connection cable and to output to the display device only a video signal of a signal form required for the display device in multiple video signals via contact pins.
