PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve detection accuracy while eliminating the necessity of a waveform area separation work which requires skilled technology, in automatically detecting a crimping failure by monitoring crimping status with pressure waveforms generated during crimping a terminal to a stripped insulation coating wire using a terminal crimping device. SOLUTION: Pressure received by a base plate 1 of the terminal crimping device is detected by a pressure sensor 10. On the basis of an output value generated by the pressure sensor 10 when crimping is performed normally, tolerances of reference waveforms and pressure values are obtained on a pre-determined interval basis and stored. When inspecting, the output wave form generated by the pressure sensor and the reference waveform are compared on the pre-determined interval basis. If the difference between the output waveform of the pressure sensor 10 and the reference waveform exceeds the tolerance, a tolerance exceeding signal is generated. If a rate of generation of the tolerance exceeding signal exceeds a pre-determined threshold, a terminal crimping failure signal is generated. In that case, a rate of the generation of the tolerance exceeding signal is calculated by weighting the waveform on a portion basis. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
