PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for inspecting the shape of a cylindrical part allowing shape inspection over a large number of items with high precision by a relatively simple structure. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises an imaging device 1, an illuminating device 2, and an information processor 3. The imaging device is placed so that it takes an image of a cylindrical work W from above. The illuminating device 2 illuminates the top surface of the cylindrical work W uniformly. The information processor 3 extracts the edge of the cylindrical work W based on the image taken by the imaging device 1 and performs thickness detection processing, which detects the thickness of the cylindrical work W based on the extracted edge, and concentricity decision processing, which decides the concentricity of the cylindrical work W.
