PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain printing paper that has a high Steckigt sizing degree in spite of a high ash content and excellent properties of printability, pen-writing strike-through suitability and dyeability of a small area. SOLUTION: This printing paper is obtained by using a sizing agent (hereafter, referred to as an emulsified sizing agent) that is prepared by emulsifying an alkyl ketene dimer as an internal sizing agent by using a cationized modified fatty acid-based sizing agent and has 0.05-0.40 meq/l anion requirement measured by dilution to 0.01 mass %, mixing the emulsified sizing agent in an amount of≥0.15 mass % based on pulp of pulp slurry and making the slurry into paper and has≥15 mass % ash content and≥15 second Steckigt sizing degree.
