PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel having an excellent corrosion without causing cracks at the time of hot rolling. SOLUTION: The austenitic stainless steel in which the formation of bubbles is prevented, and having excellent hot workability and corrosion resistance is obtained by using stainless steel comprising, by mass, 0.01 to 0.04% C, 0.2 to 1.0% Si, 0.5 to 4.0% Mn,≤0.04% P,≤0.002% S, 10.0 to 20.0% Ni, 17.0 to 25.0% Cr, 3.0 to 7.0% Mo, 0.2 to 3.0% Cu, 0.1 to 0.4% N,≤0.05% Al,≤0.006% O, 0.0005 to 0.005% Ca, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities as a fundamental composition, and finely controlling the components.
