PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic transparent composite sheet which is of a low linear expansion coefficient and is excellent in the transparency and smoothness and also has a low double refraction property inside a substrate and is used suitably for various optical applications, particularly various display-element applications and to provide a display element using it. SOLUTION: The plastic composite transparent sheet and the display element using it, are characterized by using as the essential components (a) a thermosetting resin or an ultraviolet-ray-curable resin, (b) an inorganic filler and (c) a molecular assembly having a negative value of the refractive index anisotropyΔn which is expressed by formula (1):Δn=n<SB>x</SB>-n<SB>y</SB>(wherein,Δn is a refractive index anisotropy; n<SB>x</SB>is a refractive index in the direction of X; n<SB>y</SB>is a refractive index in the direction of Y; provided that the direction X is a direction of the orientation axis of the molecular assembly; and the direction Y is a direction crossing at a right angle thereto).
