PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively carry out the switching of display colors in an organic EL display device. SOLUTION: There are provided an organic EL panel 101 for carrying out white display, aλ/4 plate 102 installed in the front surface of the organic EL panel 101, a polarized plate 103 installed on a visible side of theλ/4 plate, a TN liquid crystal panel 104, and a color polarized plate 105 of red system. In a normal display, the TN liquid crystal panel is in "off" state, and white light from the organic EL panel 101 is displayed, as it is. The TN liquid crystal panel is in "on" state in a prescribed mode, and the white light from the organic EL panel 101 is switched to the red and displayed.
