PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protection mechanism for a magnetic disk device, which can securely protect the magnetic disk device with simple configuration. SOLUTION: In the structure, a key 3 is inserted into a keyhole 4 of a portable type terminal device 1 having the magnetic disk device 9, the key 3 is connected to one end of a curl code 5, a clip 6 is connected to the other end of the curl code 5, and a photo interrupter 7 for detecting the key 3 in the keyhole 4 is further provided. The magnetic disk device 9 includes a head retracting mechanism for retracting a magnetic head from the surface of a magnetic disk, by stopping the supply of power. When it is detected that the key 3 is pulled out from the keyhole 4, the supply of power to the magnetic disk device 9 is stopped, and the magnetic head retracting mechanism is activated.
