PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the paper feeding speed of a paper feeder for continuously feeding paper sheets in a partly stacked state. SOLUTION: In this paper feeder, the uppermost layer paper sheet on a paper loading table 1 for loading the paper sheet for multiple booklets in the order of pages is retreated to a paper detection sensor 4 by a first carrying means 2, the sheet is advanced by a second carrying means 3, and these operations are repeated to continuously feed the paper sheets in a partly stacked state. The first and second carrying means 1 and 2 comprise sucking and carrying rollers 2a and 3a connected to a suction pump 10 through solenoid valves 11a and 11b. The sucking and carrying rollers 2a and 3a are continuously driven, and when the paper sheet is carried, the solenoid valves 11a and 11b are drivingly opened to suck and carry the carried paper sheet to the sucking and carrying rollers 2a and 3a.
