PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the falling of a movable platen by constituting a safety device, which is constituted so as to prevent the falling of the movable platen by locking the locking rod on the side of the movable platen by the body to be locked of the holding mechanism on the side of a fixed platen to hold the same, so that the body to be locked is automatically locked with a locking stage part with respect to the unexpencted lower movement at mold opening. SOLUTION: The safety device is provided between the fixed platen installed in a machine stand and the movable platen provided in an up and down freely movable manner with respect to the fixed platen and constituted of the vertical locking rod provided to the side part of the fixed platen and the holding mechanism on the side of the fixed platen locked with the locking stepped parts of the side surface of the locking rod to prevent the falling of the movable platen. The body to be locked is provided to a drive means in a freely revolving or retracting manner so as to be pushed by the inclined surface between the locking step parts of the locking rod with respect to the upward movement (mold opening) of the movable platen to be detached from the locking stepped parts and locked with the locking stepped parts with respect to lower movement.
