The foil (1) is made from meltable plastics and is treated prior to the supply of energy in order to raise the absorption of energy by heating the foil in the region (4) where the perforation holes (2) are to be produced away from the untreated areas. Energy is then supplied to the foil so that it melts in the treated areas to produce the holes. The foil can be moved continuously or discontinuously during the supply of energy. The energy can be supplied through electromagnetic waves.
