A wheel system with integral motors for rail vehicles has each set of four wheels divided into two independent pairs each on one rail and with integral motors. The improvements relate to the independent radial and axial adjustment for each wheel pair to match different rail gauges and to vary the height and lateral setting of the vehicles, e.g. to align with platform edges. The adjustment is via hydraulic, pneumatic or electric servo drives or combinations of these. Each adjustment includes locking means and each wheel is fitted with a separate motor.
