The unit has electrical connections (12a) for surface mounting and an optical interface (14a) for a light conductor (30) running beneath the surface (35) arranged at the free end of a light conducting element (19) protruding from the mounting side (16) with beam deflection between the unit and the interface. The light conducting element has a stop surface (25a) for the light conductor parallel to the mounting side that fixes the distance of the light conductor from the mounting side so the light conductor is at the level of the interface. An independent claim is also included for substrate part of an inventive device.
