The diesel internal combustion engine (1) has direct fuel injection and an additive feed (13) into the fuel (9) located before the direct injection. A device (16) is provided to keep the additive-to-fuel ratio constant. A particle filter (22) is provided and is regeneratable by means of the additive added by the additive feed. A monitoring of a nozzle needle system (5) is provided through which a depositing in the region of a direct injection component (2) comprising a nozzle needle (3) and seat (4) is established. An independent claim is included for a diesel fuel composition for direct injection with an additive for a particle filter.
