The device is designed as a rectangular base (2) with an integrated chopping or slicing unit (7). A vegetable, fruit, or cheese holding element (4) can be moved along the base (2) on the elevated borders (5) serving as guides. The holding element (4) is assembled of a u-shaped outer part (8) with inwards pointing projections to be inserted into openings provided at the outer ends of an inner part (9). A lid (10) covering the central space is swivel mounted to the inner part (9) and can be opened in order to accommodate a bigger item, like a cucumber.
