<p>An apparatus and method are disclosed, in which a lance 20 is introduced to clean material, such as sand, from the bottom of a tank 14. The lance 20 arrangement is operable at the working pressure of the tank, or in other terms, whilst the tank 14 remains online . Also disclosed is a cleaning lance severance apparatus and method, in which a jammed lance is cut and sealed off line from the tank operation. In the case of a lance jamming, it can be cut and abandoned, a new lance being arranged to enter the tank via an alternative aperture. Also disclosed is a hydraulic ram with a sealed piston.</p> |
