The backrest (2) of the car seat (1) can be swiveled around a transversal axle (17) to the front or the rear as required and is safely locked in this position. For unlocking a lever (15) rotating around a bolt (17) joined to a lower holding element (7) is manually moved parallel to a transmitting bolt (19) guided along a curved slot located at the lever (15). The lever (15) is pre-tensioned by a bent helical spring (21) and pressed against a stop (23). It has to be moved at first against the forces of the spring (21) but those forces are reduced gradually by the motion.
