A support member (1) for a vehicle dashboard is made of two pressed sections joined by edge seams on diagonally opposite edges and reinforced by a flat insert strip clamped in the edge seams. The support member is fitted between the A-members each side of the vehicle and the insert strip is plastic coated on both sides to match the plastic coating inside the pressed sections. The assembled support member forms an air duct as well as supporting the dashboard with the reinforcing enabling weight saving thin material to be used.
