Assembly line jig process for automobile body compares component actual position with a target position and adjusts accordingly

In a process to assemble an automobile body from a series of sheet metal components, the component sections are presented to an assembly jig and held in the intended position. The actual position is then measured using optical measuring devices and the values detected are compared with target values. The position of the body component is then aligned with the target position and the component secured by a suitable process e.g. welding to the floor pan (26).
