In a method of manufacture of grids for leadacid batteries, a cast strip of lead or lead alloy is reduced in thickness and the grids subsequently blanked therefrom, the casting, reducing and blanking steps forming a continuous process. The cast strip is passed through sizing rolls to give a reduction in thickness of approximately 7%. The grid may be formed from lead alloyed with antimony or calcium or from lead hardened by a dispersion therein of finely subdivided lead oxide, lead silicate or tungsten. In the case of a lead-antimony alloy, the thickness reduction of the cast strip may be approximately 20%. |
