A system for continuous coating of a strip fed material using liquid or viscous products has the products applied in a curtain (24) with variable dosing rate. A collecting trough (26) is positioned under the curtain to collect coating product at the start and end of the process, and during breaks in the process, e.g. material breaks. The collected product is actively removed from the trough by various means including pumping, scrapers, screw feeds, rinsing jets etc., which can handle long troughs for wide materials.
