The portable grill has a base member (1) holding the fuel source, with a grill rack (2) and cover (4,5). The cover can be moved between a closed and open position through mechanical means (6) so that in the closed position the top of the base member is closed by the cover whilst the grill surface is exposed at least in part in the open position. The device can be lifted and transported by a handle unit (7) coupled to the mechanical means so that the cover is opened and closed through the handle unit. The mechanical means comprise a hinge assembly connecting the cover unit to the base member and furthermore coupled with the handle device.
