The vehicle roof rack (10) has tubular rail (14) supported by a foot (12) which has an extension which fits in one end of the rail and is fastened to it. The rail end is without undercuts and the foot on its extension has a clamping device acting in the transverse direction and which is gripped in the rail end exclusively in a non-positive mechanically locking manner. The clamping device (18) is formed by a wedge (22) on the foot extension side and upon which slides a clamping wedge (24), and an axial tensioning screw (26).
