[Also in Division B1] Air to be delivered to the intake manifold of a supercharged I.C. engine enters a casing 1 through a peripheral inlet 23 and passes upwardly through a cruical filter element 16 wetted by liquid, e.g. oil, drawn from the sump 3 and sprayed from the upper end of a pipe 46 by air delivered under pressure from the delivery side of the supercharger, and then through a second layer of filter material to an outlet 7 connected to the intake manifold. The air under pressure is supplied to the pipe 39 and passes into a Venturi-shaped section 43 of the pipe 46 via a chamber 34 and draws in liquid through a pipe 44 dipping into a liquid well supplied with liquid from the sump 3 by a pipe 36. The upper end of the pipe 46 terminates in a funnel 47, the stem of which fits inside the pipe and the whole being so arranged that drops of liquid not reaching the lower filter are caught by the funnel and reentrained in the air flowing up the pip 46.
