A stapler, comprising a driver unit (20) having a driver for driving staples toward a sheet bundle and a clincher unit (11) having a clincher base (12) with a clincher for clinching the leg part of the staple passed through the sheet bundle, wherein the driver unit (20) and the clincher unit (11) are separated from each other in vertical direction, the clincher base (12) is installed so as to be reciprocatingly moved in vertical direction, the sheet bundle inserted between the clincher base (12) and the driver unit (20) is clamped by the forwardly moved clincher base (12) and the driver unit (20), a first drive motor operating the driver is installed in the driver unit (20), and a second drive motor reciprocatingly moving the clincher base (12) and operating the clincher is installed in the clincher unit (11).
