The method involves constructing a data base representing operational conditions and constraints applying on mechanism dimensions. An increment of tolerance range value is executed. The existence of a solution is tested for the incremented values. The value of the tolerance range is increased until a tolerance range attains a maximum value. The value of the range is obtained related to a stop condition of iteration. An independent claim is also included for an installation for implementing a method of optimizing dimensions of a mechanism of a motor vehicle or of a production line of the motor vehicle.
