The tool, designed to compress and insert spring rings (10) e.g. into piston gudgeon pin holes, has a ring compressor that brings the two ends (11) of each ring together as it is pushed along a channel (32) with converging sides (324) by a flat blade (33). Once the ring reaches the smaller end (322) of the channel it is sufficiently compressed to be inserted into the piston hole by a cylindrical pusher (52). Once inside the piston the ring can expand to engage with a groove to retain a gudgeon pin.
