PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a methane fermentation method for performing methane fermentation while bringing a fermentation liquid into contact with an electrode controlled in potential, and a methane fermentation apparatus. SOLUTION: In the methane fermentation method for subjecting organic waste to methane fermentation, the electrode is brought into contact with the fermentation liquid in methane fermentation to perform methane fermentation while applying voltage to the electrode. By this constitution, the methane fermentation can be stably performed and the concentration of methane in a biogas can be enhanced by accelerating the methane fermentation.
