The device has a straightening unit (1) for a material length (4a) pulled off a roll (3). The unit has straightening rollers (5,6) engaging on either side of the material, and an advance for the straightened length (4b). The unit is arranged, so that the relative distance between first and second rollers is decreased with increasing advance speed, and is increased when the speed drops. The first straightening rollers are movable at right angles to the advance direction (R) and are tilted about parallel axis. The straightening unit has sets of first and second rollers of different diameters.
