<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display in which high quality and high luminance of a liquid crystal display screen are obtained and low electric power consumption can be realized by suppressing polarization loss due to anisotropy of light to the minimum, efficient cutting of a light controlling member can be performed because a cut-out portion of the light controlling member is less regulated in manufacturing processes, and cost reduction is expected in an edge light type liquid crystal display using a downward lens system backlight. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display comprises an edge light type surface light source 13, 16, a plurality of light controlling members 11, 12, and a liquid crystal display panel unit 3. The transmission axis for polarized light of the light controlling member 11 is arranged as almost parallel to the transmission axis for polarized light of a polarizing plate 33 in the entrance side of the liquid crystal display panel which is disposed in the exit side of the light controlling member 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
