摘要 Disclosed is a practical negative electrode active material with high reliability which is improved in workability and corrosion resistance. Also disclosed is a manganese dry battery. The negative electrode active material for batteries mainly containing zinc and practically containing no lead is characterized in that the corrosion mass loss of the negative electrode active material having an area of 10 cm<2> is not more than 3.8 mg after being left at rest in an electrolyte solution for batteries, which contains 2.9 ppm of nickel, 0.40 ppm of cobalt and 0.86 ppm of copper, in a constant temperature bath for 66 hours at 45&ring;C.
