<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a user to smoothly utilize an image forming apparatus having an energy-saving mode, without waiting time, by controlling the timing for resuming from the energy-saving mode. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus having a mode switch means 12-5 for the switch to the energy-saving mode, after the lapse of a prescribed period of time in which the printing process is not performed, the apparatus is provided with: a first time counting means 12-1 for counting the printing interval time consisting of the lapse of time from the completion of the printing process to the next operation; an interval time storage means 12-2 for storing the counted printing interval time; a mean time calculation means 12-3 for calculating the mean time of the stored printing interval time; and a second time counting means 12-4 for counting the lapse of time from the completion of the printing process, wherein the mode switch means 12-1 releases the switched energy-saving mode when the lapse of time counted by the second time counting means 12-4 reaches the mean time calculated by the mean time calculation means 12-3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
