PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire and a medical appliance for removing a foreign substance from a blood vessel capable of capturing and removing an embolus from a blood vessel credibly with an easy operation. SOLUTION: The wire 1 for removing a foreign substance from a blood vessel comprises a long flexible wire body 2, a loop wire section 4 mounted on the leading edge of the wire body 2 slantingly with respect to the axis of the wire body 2, and filament sections 5a and 5b arranged between different two positions of the loop wire section 4 so that they cross each other. A foreign substance capturing space 3 for capturing a foreign substance in the blood vessel is formed of the loop wire section 4 and the filament sections 5a and 5b. The loop wire section and the filament sections can change their shapes between a standing condition when the loop wire section 4 and the filament sections 5a and 5b stand up and a collapsed condition when the loop wire section 4 and the filament sections 5a and 5b are collapsed.
