PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which more optimum transfer bias can be set according to surrounding environmental conditions, a paper size, etc. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a photoreceptor drum 21; a transfer roller 29 which transfers an image on the photoreceptor drum 21 onto paper by nipping the paper together with the photoreceptor drum 21; fixing means (heat roller 31, press roller 33, etc.) which fix the image on the paper transferred by the transfer roller 29; a temperature sensor 34 which detects the temperature in the apparatus and a humidity sensor 52 which detects humidity in the apparatus; and a transfer voltage application circuit 30 which, when printing on the first side of the paper is transferred, applies a transfer bias to the transfer roller 29 for the first side based upon the temperature detected by the temperature sensor 34 and/or humidity detected by the humidity sensor 52.
