PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a widened sidewalk structure which facilitates construction of a widened sidewalk for an existing bridge without imposing a large load on the existing bridge, and has improved durability. SOLUTION: According to a method of constructing the widened sidewalk structure, crossbeams are arranged across a plurality of main girders of the existing bridge, and a bracket is anchored to one side of each crossbeam in a manner overhanging sideways from the existing bridge, followed by mounting and anchoring an aluminum alloy floor slab for the widened sidewalk to an upper surface of the bracket in parallel with a bridge axial direction in a manner overhanging from the existing bridge. It is preferred that prestressing steels (PC steels) are strained and anchored to the cross beams, and one end of each prestressing steel is fastened to a proximal portion of the bracket. It is also preferred that an aluminum alloy for use in the aluminum alloy floor slab is formed of waste material of used aluminum products, particularly recycled material from used aluminum alloy guard fences (recycled aluminum alloy), because of the excellence of the recycled aluminum alloy in strength, corrosion resistance, etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
