PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To successively cut cloth to be cut neatly into a desired shape by projectingly providing a cutting needle having an inclined blade edge on a needle bar instead of a crochet needle for loop stitches projectingly provided on the needle bar in a chain-stitch sewing machine. SOLUTION: Instead of the crochet needle for the loop stitches projectingly provided on the lower part of an elevating and lowering needle bar 1 rotatable at the time of elevation in the chain-stitch sewing machine, the cutting needle 3 having the inclined blade edge 2 in a flat inverted U-shape or an inverted chevron shape in the almost same size as the crochet needle is projectingly provided on the lower part of the needle bar 1, and the cloth 4 to be cut is arranged such that the inclined blade edge 2 can be made to pass through and then removed accompanying the elevation and lowering of the cutting needle 3. By intermittently rotating the needle bar 1 while feeding the cloth 4 in a horizontal direction by a feed pitch equal to or less than the interval of respective sharp ends of the inclined blade edge 2 at the time of elevating the cutting needle 3, the operation of turning the inclined blade edge 2 to a cloth feed direction, then lowering the cutting needle 3 together with the needle bar 1 and obliquely pushing and cutting the cloth 4 to be cut in the thickness direction while gathering the cloth 4 to be cut within the interval of the blade edge point 2A to a blade edge recessed part 2B is successively repeated for each feed pitch.
