PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image scanner capable of preventing image deterioration by making curves for through up and down of a motor different for start/end of reading desired to most fast perform motor through up and down, and for intermittent operation desired to accurately read images even slowly. SOLUTION: The image scanner that reads an original while moving an original scanner unit by the motor, includes: a means for controlling motor start/stop while performing through up and down of the motor; and a memory for storing read data, wherein in the intermittent reading operation where image reading is stopped by through down of the motor when the used capacitance of the memory reaches predetermined capacitance and image reading is started by through up of the motor after such a memory full state is canceled, through up and down curves are made different for reading start and end.
