摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for estimating plate thickness by an electromagnetic pulse allowing stable estimation of plate thickness, even under noisy environment. SOLUTION: An electromagnetic pulse is transmitted from a transmitter to a steel member positioned remote from the transmitter, and a receiver of the electromagnetic wave pulse and is received by the receiver. From the correlation between the time and amplification of the received pulse, the time base and amplification axis are substantially represented by logarithmic scales, and the received pulse is approximated with linear approximation and a quadratic curve. The plate thickness is estimated by a value on the time base, corresponding to a point on which the rate of attenuation on the quadrant curve side in the vicinity of the boundary between the linear approximation part, and the quadrant curve approximation part falls lower than the predetermined value.
