PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily judging a used portion of a throwaway tip to be employed in a machine tool, etc. SOLUTION: The surface treatment is carried out on the surface of a cutting tool beforehand such that the surface layer is thin, and easily peels off or changes its color due to the heat and friction so as to show the color, gloss, etc. different from those of an original cutting tool.
