The water filter (1), to treat water carrying metal ions, has openings in the filter chamber (8) which give a horizontal flow through the filter substrate in the chamber. A clean water chamber (11) is between the filter chamber and the outflow (12), and a coarse filter (6) is between the inflow (3) and the filter chamber. A buffer (14) can be attached to a connection at the inflow or the raw water chamber (7). The filter substrate contains zeolite.
