PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image input/output apparatus that can increase the reliability of character recognition independently of majority decision as using image data representing a plurality of images including the same character information. SOLUTION: The image input/output apparatus, which recognizes characters according to image data representing a plurality of images including the same character information, input from an external system, and outputs character data alone or along with the image data, comprises arithmetic means 14 for prioritizing image data representing a plurality of images including the same character information, input from an external system, for the recognition of characters included in the images represented by the image data, and character recognizing means 16 and 17 for recognizing the characters included in the images represented by the image data to generate character data representing the recognized characters according to the priority determined by the arithmetic means.
