PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of low-costly producing crops, such as vegetables and fruits, having a good flavor by utilizing mineral-rich bittern produced in a process for producing edible salt from deep seawater. SOLUTION: The fertilizer is compounded with bittern produced in a process for producing edible salt from deep seawater. Preferably, the fertilizer is compounded with bittern produced in a process comprising drilling at a site near seashore a well communicating with a deep seawater collection site being a stratum in an island or a peninsula vertically rising from deep sea and having a side wall against which a deep seawater current directly collide and is at least 200 m deep from the sea surface, sucking deep seawater in the stratum from the well by means of a pump, and producing edible salt from the deep seawater. The fertilizer additive has bittern produced in a process for producing edible salt from the deep seawater as an effective component. A method for culturing or fertilizing crops, comprising applying the above fertilizer, optionally, together with the above fertilizer additive to the crops is also provided.
