In a buoyant structure comprising a platform 12 supported by a plurality of shaped tubular flotation chambers 10 disposed such that in plan, the centre of area and the mean plan position of the centre of gravity of the complete structure coincide, each chamber 10 comprises a hollow tubular element open at its lower end and of uniform internal cross-section and having its longitudinal axis disposed normal to the plane of the platform 12, conduit means 14 interconnecting the chambers for maintaining equal gas pressures in each chamber and means 18 for stabilizing the structure when afloat. As shown, the chambers are joined together by bracing members 15 and guide means 17 are provided at each corner of the platform 12 to permit relative movement between said platform and the chambers 10. Various stabilizing systems are described (Figs. 3, 4, 8 and 9 not shown). Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown) illustrate outrigger booms attached to the platform 12. From said booms cables depend to sinker weights resting on the sea bed. Fig. 7a illustrate how legs 50 extend to the sea bed from the platform 12, the length of the legs being adjustable. A girder type leg 150 may be attached to the chambers 10. |
