An oxidation catalyst comprises an open mesh glass fibre fabric base coated with an adherent solid refractory oxide selected from the group consisting of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2, porcelain and air-setting and hot-setting bonding mortars which are set and high alumina cements, and having a metal or an oxide of Fe, Ni, Rh, Ru, Ir or Os deposited thereon. The catalyst may be prepared conventionally e.g. impregnation of support with precursor followed by firing. Examples are given. |
