ELECTRIC DOUBLE LAYER CAPACITOR, ACTIVATED CARBON FOR ITS ELECTRODE, AND METHOD OF PRODUCING THE CARBON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric double layer capacitor that is high in electrostatic capacitance and low in internal resistance, to provide activated carbon which is used for the electrode of the capacitor and by which the capacitor can be obtained, and to provide a method of producing the carbon.

SOLUTION: The electric double layer capacitor has a pair of electrodes and an electrolytic solution. When the AC impedance of the capacitor is measured at 20°C by setting an amplitude to 10 mV around 0 V, and changing a frequency from 0.1 Hz to 1 MHz and the measured impedance is plotted on a complex plane; the value of the absolute value (-ZIm) of a negative imaginary part monotonously increases as the value of a real number component (ZRe) increases, and the impedance has no maximal point nor minimal point.
