<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellular telephone in which allowing low power consumption to a backlight or a flashlight for a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The brightness in a normal use mode of the backlight 8 is set. Control is made to increase the brightness of the backlight 8 in a photographing mode in a camera 10 rather than the set brightness in the normal use mode. In addition, the illumination of the flashlight 14 is selected depending on closing or opening an upper side base and a lower side base in the flip cellular telephone.
