PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake disk having proper quench hardness and excellent temper softening resistance and also to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The brake disk having HRC 32 to 38 quench hardness and HRC≥30 hardness after tempered at 650°C can be obtained by using a stainless steel sheet which has a composition containing, by mass,≤0.1% C,≤1.0% Si,≤2.0% Mn, 10.5 to 15.0% Cr,≤2.0% Ni, >0.5 to 4.0% Cu, >0.02 to 0.6% Nb and≤0.1% N and further containing C, N, Nb, Cr, Si, Ni, Mn, Mo and Cu in amounts satisfying expressions 5Cr+10Si+15Mo+30Nb-9Ni-5Mn-3Cu-225N-270C<42 and 0.03≤äC+N-(13/93)Nb}≤0.09, working the steel sheet into a disk-like shape and then applying quench hardening treatment where heating is done up to >1,000°C and cooling is done at a rate of≥1°C/s.
