<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which can limit places where printing can be carried out. <P>SOLUTION: The printer 30 generates and holds a private key dependent on printer position information when it is set. When requested from a printing client 20, a public key dependent on the printer position information at the time point is generated and transmitted to the printing client 20. The printing client 20 enciphers a common key with the use of the public key and transmits the key to the printer 30. At the same time, the printing client 20 enciphers printing data with the use of the common key and transmits the data to the printer 30.
