PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejector in which a carriage carrying a liquid ejection head can be secured in time to an operation for sealing a liquid ejection head by a cap means, and the carriage can be secured more reliably. SOLUTION: A printer as a liquid ejector comprises a lock member 46 reciprocating between a position for locking a carriage and a retracting position, and a mechanism, e.g. a cam gear 44, for driving the lock member 46. The printer comprises a cap for reciprocating a recording head between a sealing position and a retracting position, and a drive mechanism, e.g. a control shaft, for reciprocating a cap. The cam gear 44 for driving the lock member 46 is arrange to press the forward end part 46g of the lock member 46 when it is rotated by a drive motor to move the cap to the sealing position thus moving the lock member 46 to the lock position.
