Coaxially arranged phase windings A, B and a twopart phase winding C of a coreless shunt reactor each consisting of serially connected disc coils, are delta connected together and are axially separated in such a way as to ensure that equal mutual inductance occurs between all pairs of windings. An axial gap of 1 to 2 inches is left between windings A and B to ensure that the three-phase windings have equal self inductance and it is arranged that there are more turns in the two-part C winding than in either the A or B windings. Such reactors have alternate windings wound in opposite directions and may be immersed in cooling oil in which case they may be provided with flux shielding means.</p> |
